The aim of NAME is to assess and specify common Requirements for authentication of individuals and entities accessing the Internet. The work covers the assessment of the requirements and needs of network and service providers, in order to define general and functional specifications of a common card holder authentication for any end-user.

This document describes the specifications for a common card module for authentication and for electronic signature. The document starts with the descriptions of existing approaches and solutions, then goes to define the choices made by the project for the common module, based on what is described in the first five chapters. In the last parts, the document explains what parts of the security architecture are considered in this document and proposes for these parts a solution and an implementation.(chapters 6 and 7).

The document defines the business and technical requirements for enabling common card-holder authentication and electronic signature modules to work with any type of internet terminal. It also evaluates how and why terminal manufacturers will implement the common card authentication and/or electronic signature modules. It gives elements of a business model for using NAME and/or NAME-ES.

This documents defines the business requirements for Telecom operators for the use of authentication and electronic signature modules, taking into account the needs of the banking sector.

The baseline document contains a compilation of existing security solutions resulting from interviews identifying the existing security solutions for Internet access, and their weaknesses, focusing on the following points:
·         Financial survey with emphasis on EMV authentication methods
·         Telecom survey with comparison between software and other solutions
·         WIM wireless identity module and comparison with the planned NAME and NAME-ES modules’ objectives
·         System integrator survey on existing secure solutions for Intranet / Extranet
