- Smart IS Working groups : a unique platform to stimulate co-operation

A side effect of these Smart.IS AM working groups is to stimulate co-operation within the Industry at different levels such as :

These focals points should generate initiatives involving all players (manufacturers, developers, users, service providers, public authorities,...) to reach consensus whenever possible, to converge on open standard smart card platform : a formal proposal to CEN / ISSS to organise a seminar with Smart.IS AM in co-operation such as the ISOP IST RTD project. The general objective being not to oblige operators companies to change their standards and products but to commit to interoperable authentication and ES modules (NAME network access module, and NAME-ES module) based on smart cards technologies to secure Electronic Commerce and Internet applications.

These working groups should also stimulate new pilot projects with a particularly focus on demonstration of interoperability and use of secured payments systems in Business to Business, Business to Administration and Business to Consumers environments.

Besides the two working groups defining the common card-holder authentication and electronic signature (ES) modules, the following thematic working groups will support the definition of their environment and their general requirements :

- building a Telecom operators business model for the authentication and ES modules, taking into account Banking requirements

- setting up a device roaming concept for multi-platform access to services

- providing liaisons with representative standardisation bodies
